ICM 2011: Draft programme and list of abstracts

A draft programme is now available for the ICM 2011. You can also find below abstracts for each title. Many thanks to all speakers for contributing to what promises to be a very lively event.

Special plenary session on Columbanus

We are please to announce that Dr Sébastien Bully (CNRS, Dijon) will present his latest work on the archaeology of Luxeuil, with an overview of early medieval monasticism in the region. The session will also feature papers by Dr Aidan Breen and Emmet Marron on their work on the Life of Columbanus and the archaeology of Annagray, respectively.

Call for papers, 2011

The 25th Irish Conference of Medievalists will take place at the National University of Ireland, Galway, over 24–26 June 2011. The conference will feature:

  • A keynote address by Prof. Alf Smyth (Canterbury): ‘Ireland and Europe in the Middle Ages: Different cultures or different source materials?’
  • Special plenary session: ‘Cross-currents in Norse and Irish literature’, with Prof. Judith Jesch (Nottingham), Prof. Jan Erik Rekdal (Oslo) and Prof. Gísli Sigurðsson (Reykjavík).
  • Special plenary session: ‘New work on Columbanus’ (details to be announced).

We welcome proposals for papers of 20 minutes’ duration. Proposals should include a title and short abstract (200 words max.), and may be submitted on-line or e-mailed to padraic.moran@nuigalway.ie. Topics outside the field of Irish studies welcome!

We are very pleased to announce that the 25th anniversary Irish Conference of Medievalists will be held at the National University of Ireland, Galway, in June 2011. Planning is currently under way, more details to follow soon.
