Call for papers

University College Cork, 28-30 June 2018

The 32nd Irish Conference of Medievalists invites proposals for papers on any aspect of  medieval studies, including but not limited to:

history
archaeology
art history
literature
linguistics
theology
hagiography
apocrypha
philosophy
palaeography

Papers should last 20 minutes (+ 10 minutes for discussion).

We also invite proposals for themed sessions, comprising 3 speakers (please provide a proposal for each paper, and you are welcome to nominate your own session chair).

Proposals should contain the following information:

• name
• institutional affiliation (if any)
• email address
• abstract (c. 100 words)

Proposals should be sent to [email protected] no later than Friday 9 March. Those submitting proposals can expect to be notified before the end of March.

The ICM Committee is pleased to announce that the Plenary Speakers at the 32nd Conference to be held at University College Cork from Thursday 28 June – Saturday 30 June, 2018, will be: 

• Clare E. Stancliffe,  Honorary Reader in Ecclesiastical History in the Departments of History and of Theology & Religion at the University of Durham
• Cathy Swift, Lecturer in Medieval and Irish Studies, Mary Immaculate College, University of Limerick
• Andrew Woods, Senior Curator (Yorkshire Museum), York Museums Trust

The 32nd Irish Conference of Medievalists will be held from Thursday 28 June – Saturday 30 June, 2018, at University College Cork. More information will be posted soon!

At 6.30pm on Thursday 29th June we shall be launching:

Mícheál Ó Mainnín, Annexing Irish Names to the English Tongue: Language Contact and the Anglicisation of Irish Place-Names, Paul Walsh Memorial Lecture 2 (Maynooth, 2017)

during the wine reception in the foyer of the Iontas Building. The publication will be launched by Dr Nollaig Ó Muraíle.
